DEPRESSION

Depression is a common mental health disorder that affects how a person feels, thinks, and behaves. It causes persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and a loss of interest or pleasure in activities once enjoyed. Depression can also lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems and may decrease a person’s ability to function at work or home.

Key symptoms may include:

Persistent sad, anxious, or “empty” mood

Loss of interest or pleasure in hobbies and activities

Fatigue or decreased energy

Changes in appetite or weight

Sleep disturbances (insomnia or oversleeping)

Feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt

Difficulty concentrating, thinking, or making decisions

Thoughts of death or suicide

Depression can result from a combination of genetic, biological, environmental, and psychological factors. It’s treatable through therapy, medication, lifestyle changes, or a combination of these approaches.
